Aver Top Discontinued: Chlorpyrifos Banned in Nepal

What Happened

Nepal's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MOALD) has banned the production, formulation, import, export, commercial use, storage, sale, distribution, and transportation of three highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs): Paraquat/Paraquat Dichloride, Chlorpyrifos, and Phorate.

This ban was made public through a gazette notification published on 5 December 2024 (Nepal Gazette, Section 74).

What This Means for Aver Top

Aver Top (Chlorpyriphos 50% + Cypermethrin 5% EC) contains Chlorpyrifos and therefore falls under this ban. Panchkhal Agro Group has discontinued Aver Top with immediate effect and stopped all import, distribution, and sale of this product in full compliance with the government order.

• Reason: Contains Chlorpyrifos, banned by MOALD gazette notice, 5 December 2024
• Existing stock: Being withdrawn from sale by all dealers

Why Was Chlorpyrifos Banned?

Chlorpyrifos was classified by MOALD as a highly hazardous pesticide due to acute toxicity concerns, including its association with pesticide self-poisoning cases in Nepal. Paraquat and Phorate were banned for similar reasons under the same notification.

What Can I Use Instead of Aver Top?
